Dorell Court was developed by and named for Dorothy and Ellis Knickerbocker. In 1969 a home on a 15 acre orange grove was purchased by the Knickerbockers. Circa 1976 half the property was sold. A portion of the remaining grove was subdivided into 11 lots approved for the building of duplexes. Construction of the duplexes roughly began in 1978 with eight homes finished by 1982 or so. Another duplex built in 2000. One more is going to be built in 2026. There is one vacant lot remaining.
Old age and freezes in the early 1980’s killed the orange trees. A handful of new trees planted in the early 2000’s were killed by the citrus “Greening” disease. Except for one or two scrawny sucker trees, the grove planted shortly after WW2 is gone.
Note the grove “Wind Machine”. The wind machine was gasoline powered. Used on very cold days along with kerosene smudge pots positioned in the grove.
Carving out Dorell Ct.
Guessing this was taken in 1982.
Oak trees were planted in the mid 1980’s.
2026
In 1999, for a scene in a short film, part of Dorell Ct was painted. The gouache paint is water based and faded away in a couple weeks.
